The group scored British and American hits in 1964 with "She's Not There". In the US, two further singles, "Tell Her No" and, in 1969, "Time of the Season", were also successful. Their 1968 album, Odessey and Oracle, comprising twelve songs by the group's principal songwriters, Argent and Chris White, is ranked number 100 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

BLUEBERRY HILL (Um tributo a Fats Domino)

Antoine Dominique “Fats” Domino nasceu em 26.02.28, na cidade de New Orleans (Louisiana – EUA). Foi o mais bem sucedido cantor Afro-Americano dos anos 50, e muitos críticos especialistas afirmam que o rock 'n roll nasceu em 1950 com o seu primeiro grande sucesso, “Fat Man”. Cantor, compositor e pianista, iniciou carreira em 1949 interpretando R & B, passando a ser um freqüentador assíduo das paradas de sucesso daquele estilo. Porém, só veio a ser reconhecido pelo público branco a partir de 1955 com “Ain’t That a Shame” e, em seguida, com “Blueberry Hill” de 1956, que ocuparam posições de destaque na “Billboard”. Foi destaque no mundo do rock ‘n roll somente até 1962, tendo uma queda drástica nas paradas de sucesso também em função da Invasão Britânica. A partir daí optou por voltar às suas origens de jazz e blues, tornando-se um artista “cult” nestes gêneros, muito requisitado para apresentações “ao vivo”. Seu estilo “boogie-woogie” de tocar piano influenciou muitos intérpretes de rock. Paul McCartney não nega que compôs “Lady Madonna” inspirado no toque de piano de Fats Domino. A partir dos anos 80, Domino, já em confortável situação financeira, decidiu não mais sair de New Orleans, alegando não achar “a comida que gosta em nenhum outro lugar”, recusando, inclusive, apresentar-se no “Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame “ e até na Casa Branca. Lançou seu último álbum em 2006, “Alive 'n Kickin’”, em benefício da Tiptina Foundation, fundação que apóia a herança musical de New Orleans, principalmente após o Furacão Katrina que arrasou a cidade em agosto de 2005. The Searchers are an English beat group, which emerged as part of the 1960s Merseybeat scene along with the Beatles, the Hollies, the Fourmost, the Merseybeats, the Swinging Blue Jeans, and Gerry and the Pacemakers. The band's hits include a remake of the Drifters' 1961 hit, "Sweets for My Sweet"; remakes of Jackie DeShannon's "Needles and Pins" and "When You Walk In The Room"; an original song written for them, "Sugar and Spice"; the Orlons' "Don't Throw Your Love Away"; and a cover of the Clovers' "Love Potion No. 9". The Searchers - Junto com os Beatles e Gerry and the Pacemakers, foi uma das bandas precursoras do ‘merseybeat’, que era o estilo de ‘rock’ predominante em Liverpool na primeira metade dos anos 60. Seus maiores êxitos ocorreram entre 1963 e 1965. Depois dos Beatles, foi a primeira banda ‘pop’ de Liverpool a fazer sucesso nos EUA. JOHNNY B. GOODE (Um tributo a Chuck Berry)

O guitarrista, compositor e cantor, Charles Edward Anderson “Chuck” Berry, nasceu em St. Louis, Missouri, em 1926. Grande precursor do “rock ‘n roll”, influenciou muitos músicos de sucesso, com seu jeito abusado e agressivo de tocar guitarra. Inclusive os “Beatles”, que gravaram dois de seus grandes sucessos, “Rock ‘n Roll Music” e “Roll Over Beethoven”. “Chuck” foi também o primeiro “letrista” rebelde do “pop rock”. O seu primeiro grande sucesso aconteceu em 1955, com “Maybellene”. Em seguida vieram outros mais, tais como: “School Days”, “Roll Over Beethoven”, “Rock ‘n Roll Music”, “Sweet Little Sixteen” e “Johnny B. Goode”, só para citar alguns. Infelizmente, no auge de sua carreira em 1959, foi acusado e condenado pelo crime de corrupção de uma garota menor de idade. Saiu da prisão em 1963, exatamente quando os “Beatles” começavam a dominar o mundo do “pop rock”; mas, ao contrário do que muitos imaginavam, com a gravação de duas de suas músicas pelos quatro cabeludos britânicos, a sua carreira revitalizou-se. Nos anos 70, Berry excursionou pelo mundo afora, de forma original, carregando somente a sua guitarra Gibson. Não tinha músicos fixos. Contratava-os nos próprios locais das apresentações. “Johnny B. (From Wikipedia): Peter and Gordon were a British pop duo, comprising Peter Asher (b. 1944) and Gordon Waller (1945-2009), who achieved international fame in 1964 with their first single, the million-selling transatlantic No.1 smash "A World Without Love". The duo had several subsequent hits in the so-called British Invasion-era. Peter Asher and his sister, actress Jane Asher, were child actors in the 1950s. They played brother and sister in a 1955 episode of the television series The Adventures of Robin Hood. Jane Asher dated The Beatles' Paul McCartney between 1963 and 1968, and Peter and Gordon recorded several songs written by McCartney but credited to Lennon–McCartney. Those hits included "A World Without Love" (US & UK No.1), "Nobody I Know" (US No.12; UK No.10), "I Don't Want To See You Again" (US No.16, but not a hit in the UK), and "Woman". With "Woman", McCartney used the pseudonym Bernard Webb to see if he could have a hit song without his name attached. The song reached No.14 in the US and No.28 on the British charts in 1966. Peter and Gordon also recorded the John Lennon-penned Lennon–McCartney song, "If I Fell", which was also recorded by The Beatles and released on their 1964 album, A Hard Day's Night. STUPID CUPID (Um tributo a Connie Francis)

Natural de Newark-NJ (12.12.38), Connie Francis foi aclamada, mundialmente, rainha do rock ‘n roll, no auge de sua carreira entre 1958 e 1962. Sua primeira aparição na TV norte americana, foi tocando acordeão em um programa de talentos infantis, aos 10 anos de idade. Entretanto, consagrou-se mundialmente como cantora, atriz e compositora. Gravou seu primeiro sucesso em 1958, “Who’s Sorry Now” somente por insistência de seu pai, porque a canção foi composta em 1928 e Connie a achava antiquada. Em seguida veio “Stupid Cupid” de Neil Sedaka que a consagrou mundialmente. Outros grandes sucessos foram: “Lipstick on Your Collar”, “Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool”, e “Where the Boys Are”, música tema do primeiro de seus quatro filmes. Connie gravou mais de uma centena de albuns em vários idiomas, inclusive em Italiano, Espanhol e, acreditem, em Japonês. Nas décadas de 70 e 80 ausentou-se do showbiz por problemas pessoais diversos. (From Wikipedia):Engelbert Humperdinck (born Arnold George Dorsey; 2 May 1936)[1] is a British pop singer, best known for his number one hits "Release Me" and "The Last Waltz", as well as "After the Lovin'" and "A Man Without Love". Born in Madras, India, as a child Dorsey moved to Leicester, England, where he took an early interest in music. Initially playing the saxophone in nightclubs, he soon moved into singing, releasing his first single, "I'll Never Fall in Love Again", in 1958. After struggling with tuberculosis, in the mid-1960s Dorsey returned to his musical career, adopting the stage name "Engelbert Humperdinck" after the German 19th-century composer of operas. Signed to Decca Records, he gained early success in Belgium after representing England in the 1966 Knokke song contest there. Returning to the United Kingdom, he released a string of singles that proved commercially successful both domestically and in the United States. Gaining a devoted fan following, he also fronted a short-lived television series, The Engelbert Humperdinck Show.

JAILHOUSE ROCK (Um tributo ao "Rei" do rock 'n roll"

O maior cantor de rock de todos os tempos, Elvis Aaron Presley, nasceu em 08 de janeiro de 1935 na cidade de Tupelo, Mississippi; infelizmente, problemas cardíacos, em parte motivados pelo uso excessivo de medicamentos, causaram a sua morte precoce em 16.08.77, na sua mansão em Graceland, Memphis, Tenessee. Elvis mudou-se, com os pais, para Memphis em 1948, e assinou o seu primeiro contrato profissional em 1955 com a empresa do “Coronel” Tom Parker, que tornar-se-ia o seu grande conselheiro e empresário. O seu primeiro compacto com “Heartbreak Hotel “ e “I Was the One”, lançado pela RCA em 1956, vendeu 300 mil cópias em três semanas (na época, um número astronômico). No dia seguinte ao lançamento, Elvis e sua banda participam pela primeira vez de um programa de TV, o “Stage Show” da rede CBS. O seu primeiro álbum, lançado em março de 1956, liderou a parada “Billboard” por 10 semanas, e vendeu mais de hum milhão de cópias. Em agosto deste mesmo ano, iniciou a sua também brilhante carreira de ator, com o longa metragem “Love Me Tender”. SURFIN' USA (Um tributo aos The Beach Boys)

(Fonte Wikipedia): The Beach Boys é uma banda de rock dos Estados Unidos formada em Hawthorne, Califórnia, em 1961, e é tida como uma das mais influentes da história do rock e do pop. Emplacou dúzias de canções nas paradas de sucesso (também emplacou quatro compactos no primeiro lugar entre os mais vendidos nos Estados Unidos), além de álbuns recordistas de venda. Foi incluída no Hall da Fama do Rock and Roll em 1988. Seu álbum Pet Sounds, de 1966, que contém clássicos como "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "Sloop John B", e "God Only Knows", e é considerado umas das maiores obras primas da história da música pop. O grupo original consistia do cantor-músico-compositor Brian Wilson, seus irmãos Carl e Dennis, o primo Mike Love e o amigo Alan Jardine. Their most famous songs include the Hot 100 chart topper "Wild Thing", "With a Girl Like You" and "Love is All Around". "Wild Thing" is ranked #257 on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and was an influence on garage rock and punk rock. Fronted by Reg Presley, the Troggs were from the town of Andover in southern England and were originally called the Troglodytes. "Wild Thing", "With a Girl Like You" and "Love is All Around" each sold over one million copies and were awarded gold discs.

O ator e cantor Francis Thomas Avallone (Frankie Avalon), nasceu em 18.09.39 na Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia, E.U.A. Iniciou a sua carreira de ator aos 12 anos de idade, com participações em seriados da TV norte americana, tornando-se depois também um bem sucedido cantor “pop”. O seu auge ocorreu entre os anos de 1958 e 1963, com dezenas de “singles” atingindo altas colocações nos “hit parades” mundiais e participações bem sucedidas em diversos filmes de Hollywood, tais como: “The Alamo”, “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea”, e os “Beach Party Movies”, muito populares entre os jovens do início dos anos 60. Os seus maiores sucessos musicais foram: “Venus” e “Why”, ambos “million-sellers”. Frankie é casado desde 1963 com Kathryn Diebel, uma vencedora de concursos de beleza, e tem oito filhos e dez netos. Continua na ativa, participando constantemente de concertos “pop” tipo “Jovem Guarda”, agora com a companhia de um dos filhos que é baterista. Categorised in the United States as a British Invasion band, the Kinks are recognised as one of the most important and influential rock groups of the era. Their music was influenced by a wide range of genres, including rhythm and blues, British music hall, folk and country. Ray Davies (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Dave Davies (lead guitar, vocals) remained members throughout the group's 32-year run. Longest serving member Mick Avory (drums and percussion) was replaced by Bob Henrit formerly of Argent in 1984. Original bassist Pete Quaife was replaced by John Dalton in 1969 and Dalton was in turn replaced by Jim Rodford in 1978. Keyboardist Nicky Hopkins accompanied the band during studio sessions in the mid-1960s. In 1969 keyboardist John Gosling joined the band, making them an official five-piece, while Ian Gibbons replaced him in 1979, playing in the band until its eventual demise. The Kinks first came to prominence in 1964 with their third single, "You Really Got Me", written by Ray Davies. DIANA (Um tributo a Paul Anka)

Paul Anka
Canadense de 1941, desde criança, sonhava em se tornar um "pop rock idol". Estourou mundialmente em 1957 com "Diana" que vendeu, só nesse ano, mais de 7 milhões de cópias, chegando a um total superior a 10 milhões com as vendas dos anos seguintes. Outros grandes sucessos tais como, "Lonely Boy", "Put Your Head On My Shoulder" e “You Are My Destiny”, vieram a seguir. Entre 1964 e 1968, quando o mercado musical "pop" norte americano enfrentava grandes dificuldades para combater a invasão das "pop bands" britânicas, Paul decidiu mudar-se para a Itália onde deu continuidade ao seu sucesso. Foi o vencedor do festival de San Remo em '64 com "Ogni Volta" que vendeu mais de 04 milhões de cópias na Europa. Retornou às paradas mundiais em 1974 com “Having My Baby”, em dueto com a cantora Odia Cotes. Foi ator coadjuvante em vários filmes de Hollywood, sendo o de maior sucesso, "The Longest Day". A música tema deste filme de guerra é de sua autoria. Paul já compôs mais de 900 músicas. Algumas centenas delas já foram gravadas por grandes nomes da música, tais como: Elvis Presley, Barbara Streisand, Tom Jones, Donny Osmond e outros mais. É também o autor da letra do grande sucesso de Frank Sinatra, "My way".
Cantor, compositor, ator, "entertainer"... um artista completo... meu eterno ídolo.

Clark's professional career began as an entertainer on BBC Radio during World War II. During the 1950s she started recording in French and having international success in both French and English, with such songs as "The Little Shoemaker", "Baby Lover", "With All My Heart" and "Prends Mon Cœur". During the 1960s she became known globally for her popular upbeat hits, including "Downtown", "I Know a Place", "My Love", "Colour My World", "A Sign of the Times", and "Don't Sleep in the Subway". She has sold more than 68 million records throughout her career.
Clark was born to English father Leslie Norman Clark and Welsh mother Doris (née Phillips), both nurses at Long Grove Hospital, in Epsom, Surrey, England. Her father Leslie coined her first name, and joked that it was a combination of the names of two former girlfriends, Pet and Ulla. As a child, Clark sang in the chapel choir and showed a talent for mimicry, frequently impersonating Vera Lynn, Carmen Miranda and Sophie Tucker for the amusement of family and friends. Her father introduced her to theatre when he took her to see Flora Robson in a 1938 production of Mary Tudor; she later recalled that after the performance "I made up my mind then and there I was going to be an actress ... I wanted to be Ingrid Bergman more than anything else in the world."[3] However, her first public performances were as a singer, performing with an orchestra in the entrance hall of Bentall's Department Store in Kingston upon Thames for a tin of toffee and a gold wristwatch, in 1939.

THE GREAT PRETENDER (Um tributo aos The Platters)

The Platters Indiscutivelmente, o mais famoso conjunto vocal dos anos '50. Um dos raros conjuntos "doo-wop" admitidos no "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame". O grupo foi formado em Los Angeles em 1953, com Tony Williams, David Lynch, Alex Hodge, Herb Reed e Zola Taylor. Seu primeiro contrato foi com a Federal Records, onde gravaram sete compactos simples, sem sucesso. Provavelmente, porque a Federal não soube tirar proveito do talento do grupo, engavetando "Only You", considerada fora do padrão de qualidade da empresa. A sorte dos Platters começou a mudar quando o compositor, arranjador e empresário Buck Ram; grande admirador do tenor Tony Williams, começou a empresariá-los e, ao levar The Penguins (um dos conjuntos mais promissores da época) para a Mercury Records, exigiu a também contratação dos Platters. "Only You" foi então re-gravada e lançada no verão de 1955, sendo um sucesso imediato nos Estados Unidos e no mundo. Em seguida, vieram: The Great Pretender, My Prayer, Twilight Time, Smoke Gets InYour Eyes, e outros mais. Em 1961, Tony Williams decidiu deixar o conjunto para tentar uma carreira solo, (por sinal sem muito sucesso) sendo substituído pelo competente Sonny Tumer. E a troca de integrantes persistiu nos anos seguintes, gerando grandes batalhas judiciais pelos direitos de uso do nome The Platters. Incrivelmente, o direito de uso do nome The Platters foi concedido a vários indivíduos; ex-integrantes, parentes, ex-empresários e outros mais. THERE`S a KIND of HUSH (A tribute to Herman`s Hermits)

(From Wikipédia): Herman's Hermits are an English beat (or pop) band, formed in Manchester in 1963 as Herman & The Hermits. The group's record producer, Mickie Most (who controlled the band's output), emphasised a simple, non-threatening, clean-cut image, although the band originally played R&B numbers.[3] This helped Herman's Hermits become hugely successful in the mid-1960s but dampened the band's songwriting; Noone, Hopwood, Leckenby and Green's songs were relegated to B-sides and album cuts. Their first hit was a cover of Earl Jean's "I'm into Something Good" (written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King), which reached No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart and No. 13 in the US in late 1964. They never topped the British charts again, but had two US Billboard Hot 100 No.1s with "Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter" (originally sung by Tom Courtenay in a 1963 British TV play) and "I'm Henry the Eighth, I Am" (a British music hall song by Harry Champion dating from 1911, which Peter Noone's Irish grandfather had been in the habit of singing when Noone was young). These songs were aimed at a US fan base, with Peter Noone exaggerating his Mancunian accent; the band was not fond of either song, and they were never released as singles in Britain. In the US, their records were released on the MGM label, a company which often featured musical performers they had signed to record deals in films. The Hermits appeared in several MGM movies, including When the Boys Meet the Girls (1965) and Hold On! (1966). They also starred in the film Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter (1968) and appeared in the 1965 anthology film Pop Gear.

OH! PRETTY WOMAN (Um tributo a Roy Orbison)

Natural de Vernon, Texas, ganhou a sua primeira guitarra aos seis anos de idade, e compôs a sua primeira canção, "A Vow of Love", aos nove. Em 1949, formou a sua primeira banda, "The Wink Westerners", tocando basicamente, "Country & Western"; e, após ter vencido um concurso de talentos amadores em 1951, passou a apresentar-se regularmente em programas de rádio. As suas primeiras gravações não foram sucessos estrondosos, mas fizeram com que a sua fama de bom compositor chegasse aos ouvidos de artistas de "Country" e "Rockabilly". Assim, em 1958, compôs "Claudette" que foi o lado "B" do grande "hit" dos "Everly Brothers", "All I Have To Do Is Dream". Como intérprete, atingiu o estrelato em 1959, com "Only the Lonely". Outros grandes sucessos mundiais vieram logo a seguir: "Crying", "In Dreams", "Mean Woman Blues", "It's Over", e outros mais. Em 1963, excursionou com os "Beatles" pela Grã Bretanha, com enorme sucesso. Em certo show, foi obrigado a fazer "bis" por mais de uma dezena de vezes, atrasando a entrada dos então já famosos quatro rapazes de Liverpool, em mais de meia hora. Foi um dos poucos roqueiros norte americanos a suportar firmemente a invasão britânica dos anos 60. Prova disso, é que o seu maior sucesso ocorreu em 1964 com "Oh Pretty Woman", um dos maiores clássicos do "pop rock" de todos os tempos Roy nunca mais foi o mesmo após o trágico falecimento de sua esposa em um acidente de moto, ocorrido em 1966, e, de dois de seus três filhos em um incêndio, em 1968. Perdeu, quase por completo, sua capacidade de compositor. Nos anos anos 70 e 80 continuou sendo um sucesso, apresentando-se "ao vivo" pelo mundo todo, interpretando seus grandes sucessos de '58 a '64. Faleceu em 1988 de causas naturais. CASS fev/09

BUS STOP (A tribute to The Hollies)

(From Wikipedia): The Hollies are an English pop group formed by Allan Clarke and Graham Nash in the early 1960s. Known for their distinctive vocal harmony style, they became one of the leading British groups of the 1960s and early 1970s. They enjoyed considerable popularity in many countries, although they did not achieve major US chart success until 1966. Nash left the group in 1968, and then formed Crosby, Stills & Nash. The Hollies had 30 charting singles on the UK Singles Chart, and 21 on the Billboard Hot 100, with major hits on both sides of the Atlantic that included "Just One Look", "Look Through Any Window", "Bus Stop", "I Can't Let Go", "On a Carousel", "Stop Stop Stop", "Carrie Anne", "Jennifer Eccles", and later "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother", "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" and "The Air That I Breathe". They are one of the few British pop groups of the early 1960s that have never officially broken up and continue to record and perform. They formed in Manchester, although the majority of the band members came from towns in East Lancashire. In recognition of their achievements, the Hollies were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.

ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK (Um tributo a Bill Haley e Seus Cometas)

Se há controvérsia sobre quem foi o pai do "rock 'n roll",existe a certeza de que Bill Haley foi o primeiro músico branco a popularizar este estilo musical, ao gravar "Rock Around The Clock", grande sucesso mundial em 1955, com vendas superiores a hum milhão de cópias, tanto nos Estados Unidos, como na Grã Bretanha e na Alemanha (na época, um recorde absoluto). Bill, foi também o primeiro roqueiro norte-americano a excursionar pela Europa, em 1957. Iniciou carreira em 1946, e formou várias bandas que ficaram conhecidas só no mundo da "Country Music". A partir de 1952, com a banda "Bill Haley & His Comets", começou a mudar o seu estilo para algo que alguns músicos negros estavam começando a experimentar. Um estilo que misturava "Country" com "R&B", bem para "cima", e que mais tarde veio a ser denominado de "Rock 'n Roll”. A chegada, logo em seguida, de um indivíduo chamado Elvis Presley, mais jovem, e com um "sex appeal" inigualável entre os músicos da época, afetou consideravelmente a carreira de Bill Haley (que era cego do olho esquerdo, desde criança). Viveu os anos 60 excursionando pela Europa, México e América do Sul, com sucesso; mas, a partir dos anos 70, nada mais aconteceu de relevante em sua carreira, mesmo porque, infelizmente, o grande roqueiro caiu no vício do álcool.
